AIU Study Abroad in Dubai

Reviewing: American Inter Continental University Dubai, Uae Study Abroad Program

American InterContinental University is a for-profit institution, distinguishing them from what you might think of the "traditional" study abroad programs conducted through universities. I attended seeking an education about the Middle East, as did many of my fellow students (not all of whom were college aged). Unfortunately, if that's what you're looking for, you'd probably be better off looking elsewhere. Their stated colleges within the university are as follows:

School of Business Administration
School of Engineering
Department of Information Technology
Department of Interior Design
Department of Visual Communication
School of Communication and Information Studies

There are very few course offerings that don't fit into the above fields of study [rather, there are some other courses, but the university obviously doesn't care very much about their quality]. I did get some benefit out of Arabic and Middle Eastern History classes, but in retrospect I think I wouldn't recommend this to someone unless they are seeking an education on one of the above topics. Dubai really feels like a crossroads for the entire world (in a way that is sometimes overwhelming), and it is an amazing place to travel, but this program isn't for everyone.

I have always wanted to do a study abroad type thing. If I ever did, I think I would definitely do the Dubai thing. I think that interior design would be a unique program over there.
