American Girl Doll Julie By jennz on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Julie is the latest in the line of historical dolls released by American Girl. I have to say I was not too pleased to hear about this, since Julie was 9 in 1974 - the same as me! So now there this a historical doll my age! Anyway, back to the review...American Girls are very very popular with the tween crowd and my daughter is no exception. I was pleased to see that Julie has been created with the same detail and quality I've come to expect from American Girl. She is themed to the 70s and arrives wearing very 70's appropriate bell bottoms and top. Julie has long straight blond hair (her hair so straight it looks like she might have ironed it! or maybe an older sister did?). All the American Girl historical dolls arrive with a book about their period, and Julie's story is about life in 1974. Julie's parents are getting divorced and she lives in an apartment in San Francisco. She loves to play basketball and wants to try out for the school team, but girls aren't allowed to play! In the story Julie has to find a way to deal with her parents divorce, which is a pretty new thing, and play sports - also new for girls - while staying true to herself.
