One of the nicest gifts any little girl can receive is an American Girl doll. My little girl was blessed to have two while she was growing up. While they are quite expensive, they are collectible dolls, and they are educational as well. Each doll has a story, and within the story are many historical facts about the time and culture in which the little girl lived. Each American Girl doll comes with a book of her own, and additional books relating to her life are also available.

Samantha Parkington is an orphan who was raised by her very wealthy grandmother. Her birthday is May 26, 1895, so the history of that time is reflected in her clothes, accessories, and stories. Samantha arrives in a checked dress, with a matching ribbon in her hair. She has black tights and black shoes. She also has accessories that can be purchased for $20.00, which include a beautiful burgundy velvet hat, handkerchief, coin purse, an Indian head penny, and gold locket. Samantha has brown eyes and brown hair.

Samantha is a kind girl, and she shows her compassion and kindness by befriending a young girl named Nellie, who is poor and has to work to support her family. When the other children mistreat her by calling her names, Samantha takes her under her wing, and learns a valuable lesson about the true value of a person.

Samantha has many outfits and additional accessories available for purchase. However, a catalog from 2008 mentions that she is about to be retired, so perhaps she is by now. She can probably be purchased second hand or on Ebay. She is a beautiful doll with an interesting story. I highly recommend American Girl dolls for all little girls.
