My daughter owns the American Girl Today doll from American Girl. I was hesitant to purchase a doll that cost nearly $100 because I simply was not certain that any doll is worth that much. My daughter wanted the doll because her best friend had one and they wanted to play with them together.

Prior to purchasing the American Girl doll we purchased a similarly designed doll from a mass merchant retailer. The doll was similar in size and overall appearance but the quality was not very good.

After our experience with the generic American Girl doll I was even more hesitant to purchase an authentic one. My fears were completely misplaced.

I am completely satisfied with the quality and durability of the American Girl doll we purchased. The quality of the doll is outstanding. It is very well designed and built to withstand years of play. I was even more impressed with the hair on the American Girl doll. The hair from the generic doll had become matted and unmanageable almost immediately. The American Girl doll's hair has remained beautiful after several years worth of play.

The price of the American Girl dolls may be high but the quality of the dolls justifies the added expense.
