An Incredible Book!
By edev5 onI bought this book, The Name Book by Dorothy Astoria about two months ago. This book contains 10,000 names along with their meaning. I know I havent been pregnant yet (although this book is targeted to the expecting couple), and its very early to buy this kind of book but it makes me curious about finding peoples names and their meanings. And my hubby wouldnt mind at all if we pick our childrens names earlier lol The book is 482 pages thick, and comes with a slight history of peoples names. Every name listed in it comes with its variation/derivation as well. For example, if youre looking for the name GORDON (the capital letter shows the original name) then it will be followed by its variation/derivation, Gordan, Gordie, Gordy (the derivation is written in small letter). Then the names origin (culture and language) comes after that (GORDON is from Anglo-Saxon). Next we will be given the literary meaning behind that name and later on the implied religious meaning. The last is the Bibles verse reflecting that name.
I may not be a very religious person but when reading this book, especially on the Bibles verse section, I was so touched. I mean, I could never imagine that behind a name, there was a reflection of Gods grace in it. And whats more, is that at the end of the book, there are several appendixes, namely the Name List on the Bible (Girls Names as well as Boys Names), Birth Stone and Flowers, The Family Tree scheme from the father as well as from the mother (which requires us to fill in the scheme with our ancestors names), A blank list of Favorite Daughters Names and Sons Names by the mothers choice, and consecutively by the fathers choice (top ten names for each). This is a very interesting book indeed! I have just picked and written some names, and later, when Im finished, Ill let my hubby do the same Love it! Incredible book!
