When I was registering for my baby shower my sister-in-law, among others, recommended I register for the Diaper Champ. I am really glad we did.
The Diaper Champ is a basically a container for used diapers. You simply line the Diaper Champ with a plastic garbage bag (13 gallon). Once you have a dirty or wet diaper, you simply put it into the opening on the top and flip the handle. One of the best features is that you can use any plastic garbage bag to line it. No specially purchased bags needed for the Diaper Champ.
At first I thought the Diaper Champ had amazing odor control. However, I realized that since my son was breastfed, his diapers really had no odor. Once my son was on solid foods, his bowel movements did start to have a strong odor. The Diaper Champ did a good job at controling the odor, but sometimes you were still able to catch a wiff. We then decided to bag any poopy diapers in plastic grocery bags and then put them in the Diaper Champ. That completely elimated any odor problems.
The Diaper Champ is sometimes hard to open/close when you are ready to change the bag. However, I think this is only because it has such a tight seal to keep the odor out.
We have been using this product for 2 1/2 years now and I am extremely happy with the durability and the continous odor control. We plan to continue to use the Diaper Champ with baby #2 also. I highly recommend this product to any new mother - especially those with a 2-story house.

It is great that you don't have to buy special bags. I had the diaper genie when my kids were younger and it end up costing alot to keep getting the refills.
I had the Genie and those bags were crazy expensive. I ended up making the run down stairs (outside sometimes) with the soiled diapers. I really like the idea of this model. If we ever go down that road again, I'm getting this one.
