Anti Depressant Natural Alternative:St John's Wort By MrsSpy on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I learned about St John's Wort from my husband's niece whose mom has been suffering from depression and anxiety for 20 years now. Her mom used to take anti-depression tablets for more than 10 years already. Due to fear of long term side effects of taking medications for her depression, she asked her doctor if she can take a better and natural alternative. She was advised by her doctor to take St John's Wort Anti-Stress Tablets. I was also diagnosed with depression few years back. I used to take anti-depressant tablets as well. However, I decided to stop my medication, also due to fear of side effects. The fact that I was also breast feeding my son when I started the medication gave me the fear that it might also have a long term effect on him. I also asked my doctor about St. John's Wort and he recommended it to me with all confidence.
I have been using St John's Wort for more than a year now. I should say that I am doing very well and coping up with daily stress. It feels good that with St John's Wort I am able to relieve myself of tension or stress that could lead to depression. Aside from taking St John's Wort I am also doing my regular routine of exercise, proper diet and taking some essential vitamins to keep me mentally and physically healthy.

I'm glad to hear that St. John's Wort is helping you. I'm not into taking medications myself and rather find natural alternatives for any problem I may have
I took St John's Wort some year ago and the biggest change I noticed was that I stopped having repetitive anxiety dreams and other bad dreams. I slept better with gentler dreaming.
I'm going to talk to my psychiatrist about this next time I see her. She probably won't be happy that I'm ditching the money-making medication!
