Anti Inflammatory Supplement By Cyn Bagley on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
There has been many claims about the use of Omega-3 fish oil. Some of it was exaggerated (as a cure for cancer) and some of it was not (heart-healthy). But, other Wegener's Granulomatosis patients have used this supplement to good effect. So I am going to tell you my story of using this product.
About two years ago, my inflammation markers for this disease were high. At one point the markers were at 80 and higher. My doctor wasn't sure if it was because my blood was changing shape from the use of cytoxan or that the cytoxan was not holding the inflammation from the disesase.
Just a little note about Wegener's Granulomatosis. It is an inflammatory disease. It is also an auto-immune disease. So in laymen's terms, this disease causes the autobodies in the body to attack the blood vessels, causing inflammation (or making the blood vessels close up). It is a systemic disease meaning that all the organs can eventually get involved with this disease, which leads to death.
The normal treatment for this disease is chemo (small amounts) and prednisone. But, this wasn't working too well for me. So one of my WG discussion group friends told me about the research on fish oil and how it helped reduce inflammation. I began to take 1200 mg of Omega-3 fish oil three times a day.
In a month my inflammation markers dropped dramatically. It really pleased my doctor. Now I take it two times a day. Eventually I will go to one a day.
Anyway, if you are on blood thinners of any type, you should not take this supplement without taking to your doctor.
Also, I am not the only one in my group to have a story about Omega-3. As one of the members of my group says daily "Go Omega-3."
BTW I use fish oil. Others use salmon oil. I have tried both. The inexpensive oil (fish) is as effective as the expensive (salmon) oil.
Nature Made Omega-3 Fish Oil Purchased at: Walgreens Price: 5.99

So happy you found something to make you feel better, keep capsules in freezer so they don't taste so bad.
This is something I need to incorporate in my vitamin supplements.......I pray that this will continue to help you with your disease!!
I started taking fish oil to help lower my cholestorol, who knew it had other benifits too. Thanks for the information, it was very helpful.
So glad you found something that is helping!
I take two of these capsules a day, my doctor heartily approves. Glad these are helpful to you.
I am going to have to try these! Thanks!
I am glad you found something that works for you.
Ok I just did some quick research on Nature made. Here is the label: Amount per Serving % Daily Value+ Calories Total 25 from Fat 20 Total Fat 2.5 g 4% Saturated Fat 1 g 5% Polyunsaturated fat 1 g Monounsaturated fat 0.5 g Cholesterol 25 mg 8% Protein 2 g Fish Oil Concentrate 2400 mg * Omega-3 (EPA) Eicosapentaenoic Acid 360 mg * Omega-3 (DHA) Docosahexaenoic Acid 288 mg * It contains 360 mg of EPA!!! 360!!! You certainly DON'T want to take this if you take any kind of blood thinners since EPA will thin it even more. The brand I take only contains 35 mg of EPA along with 340 mg of DHA. BIG DIFFERENCE! It's not much more expensive.. only a few dollars.. but I was able to get mine on sale with a coupon code they mailed me "gift of health". It got me 12% off the price. It's made by Neurovi and can be bought at their website.. just google them. :D
