Apples to Apples
By donnabc onGenerally we play Outburst. But last Christmas my parents surprised us with a new family game I had never heard of...Apples to Apples.
Now, to be far, I think it is rated for age 12 and up.But, this game did not come close to holding the younger kids (or teenagers) attention like OutBurst does.
Basically, you have two decks of cards. The red deck is a deck of nouns...each player is dealt 7 of these cards (you can look at them). The other deck is green and each of these cards has a phrase that is descriptive in nature. The first dealer chooses a green card and reads it out loud. Each player chooses a noun card from their hand that BEST fits the description just read and places it on the table. The dealer then reads all the cards and chooses which one he/she thinks best is the best answer.Who's ever card it is gets it back (like it is now a point for them). Then the next person is the judge and it just goes around the table in order.
We had some laughs and the adults enjoyed it more than the kids...it will not replace OutBurst but it was a nice alternative.

I've never played this game, but my sister in law seems to like it a lot!
Never heard of this one but sounds fun. Thanks I am always looking for games for family get togethers.
Doesn't seem to grab me like some of the others, but I haven't tried it.
I love this game! My sister brought it and the whole family played it at Christmas, and I have never laughed so hard in my life. It sounds like a really boring and simple game, but it's really really funny!
This sounds interesting, but I can see how it could be boring for younger kids.
We just go Apples to Apples over the holidays and it's a BLAST!!!! We played it constantly and expect to get a whole lot more mileage out of it (thanks Ruth for giving it to us btw). www.playyourredcard.com is a good place to check it out and get more of a feel for it.
