Appleseed ExMachina, a treat for John Woo fans!
By Mia Blaisdell onIfyour looking for a great action Anime feature, Appleseed Ex Machina is at the top of the list in my big list of Anime favorites. Produced by John Woo, known for his highly choreographed and stylized cinema gun battles, and directed by Shinji Aramaki, very talented Anime / Mechanical designer knownfor his work in Mecha and CG in many Anime features.
This movie is the second of the Appleseed features and takes place in 2135, after thenon-nuclear war of 2133 which wiped out half the population. It is decided that Olympus, a utopia city, needed to be created and to ensure that another war like that would happen in the future, scientist created "bioriods", custom designed human clones who's DNA would not allow them to experience extreme emotional states, ever. There are also cyborg as well, mostly the injured from the war, augmented with mechatechnology in prosthetic formto help them lead more normal lives.
However even though people are trying to put the war behind them and heal, not everyone agrees with the efforts top administrators have created in this "city model for ensuring mankind's future", in fact some seek out to destroy it. What seem like a glitch in the "mecha" becomes much more, and much more evil.
I don't want to say more and ruin it for you, but let me tell you, this is by no way boring! From gun battles to chases, it's packed with everything a Sci-fi / Anime / Mecha fan could want, and the main characters, Deunan and Briareos, will keep you glued to the screen till the end.Plus, if that doesn't hook you, the extra features will, featuring interviews with John Woo and Shinji Aramaki!
