Appleseed Exmachina Special Edition By Minion on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
if you're looking for some awesome action and gunfight scenes, thsi is a pretty great place to start. this movie delivers within the first 5 minutes of the movie, showing off the CG thats improved alot since the previous movie.
the dialog is about what you would expect if you saw the previous appleseed movie. very cliche' and alot of angst. nothing special.
john woo is the producer for this one. the action sequences really have improved, and if you've seen other movies he's worked on, you should see some of the techniques he uses.
the story was interesting. people in the future may be stupid though. you'll probably figure out the answer to the movie's main conflict long before the characters within it do. at least i did, and thought it was in plain sight. thats just my take on it. i won't give it away.
the overall reason to get appleseed is the action. it's way over the top and well coriagraphed.
the special features were - well, i'll call it interesting. it gives you about 40 minutes of americans talking about japanese culture. theres lots of mispronounced words and alot of speculation that doesn't come close to truth. to someone whos a little versed on the subject and has watched anime for many years, it was pretty funny to watch. some others may jsut be frustrated with it though.
the movie is avaiable on bluray, hd-dvd, and regular dvd. both special and regular editions. the tin dvd box you get with the special edition is pretty cool.

This sounds like an interesting anime' my youngest son is into Anime and lived in Japan for a year, he is also an Asian studies major in college. This might be a great birthday gift for this year.
