Aspercreme For Dulling Muscle Pain

Reviewing: Aspercreme Odor Free Therapy Pain Relieving Lotion
Purchased at: Walmart     Price: $5.00 USD

I bought this because my husband works a construction job and comes home with achy and sore (back and other muscles) Sometimes with HUGE bruises.
I am a certified therapeutic massage therapist ( not working now, just for my husband )and there are other products out there that are specially made for helping to relieve muscle pain. However they are VERY expensive and need to be ordered ... so I was looking for something that would effectively help relieve his muscle pain, but NOT be stinky( I hate that!) , NOT cost so much AND be easily and immediately available.

I paid about $5.00 at Walmart for the 6oz bottle.

Front of bottle says:
Clinically proven for minor arthritis, joint and muscle pain relief.

USES LISTED ON BOTTLE:
Temporarily relieves minor aches and pain associated with simple back ache, muscle strains, muscle spasm, bruises and cramps.

THE DIRECTIONS :
Adults and children over 12yrs:Apply generously to affected area -massage into painful area until thoroughly absorbed into skin-repeat as necessary up to 4 times a day.

ACTIVE INGREDIENT:
Trolamine salicylate

WARNINGS?ALLERGY ALERTS:
For external use only,
If prone to allergic reaction from aspirin or salicylates, consult a doctor before use.

WHEN USING THIS PRODUCT:
use only as directed, do not bandage tightly or use with a heating pad, avoid contact with the eyes or mucus membranes, do not apply to wounds or damaged skin.

I have been using this on my husband for almost a month(off and on)2X a day ( morning before he leaves and evening after work)
Well... I can say that it is easy to find and it doesn't stink (there is NO smell). It absorbs VERY quickly and leaves no greasy or sticky feeling.

One of the things that we found was that we had to use a lot of product to get any kind of result ( about 1TBS for the lower back) and it took about half an hour ( possibly longer)to feel a difference. There was no heat caused by this product..none of that bengay feeling.
We found that it did do SOME good for his muscle pain and that it does MILDLY relieve the pain from the nasty bruises he had..although he says it doesn't do anything for the "deeper" pain/ache in the muscles ...It helped more by dulling SOME of the ache. This seemed to last for a couple hours although the times did seem to vary depending on how severe the pain was, which muscles/body part it was used on.

We used it on his thighs, arms (triceps, biceps) lower back and hands, parts of his shoulders and neck. We did NOT do all areas at once , although the bottle says nothing about "overdose" we didn't think it was a product for total body (large area) usage, and wanted to be safe.So we alternated over the week.

I think that this product is more of a surface pain reliever than a deep muscle penetrating aid. Not exactly what we were hoping/looking for but pain is pain and any help is good I suppose. I am very picky with high expectations when it comes to this kind of product ( this is from being a massage therapist)and I have to admit that I do like more natural products than this... However my husband likes that it does provide some relief and that it doesn't smell bad,so we continue to use this for him.

I've used this and it really does work. I'm recovering from surgery and have some muscle pain. It is a simple way to get temporary relief without swallowing a pill.

This does not do much for me but other people I have talked to love it.

I found that it only took care of the more superficial pain in muscles. ThermaCare is much more effective in helping alleviate some deeper muscle pains.

At least it provides some relief so it isn't a total waste. Nice to know it isn't stinky either!

I agree with you-I bet this would not be as effective on deep muscle pains as it would be for superficial ones but I'm sure on some level & in more time it does do the trick!
