Avent Magic Trainer Cup By Tina Lehman on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

Avent makes sippy cups that are free or low in bisphenol-A (which has been shown to be toxic). In replacing all my sippy cups, I decided to try the Avent Magic Training Cup.

The cup has handles, which make it easy for little ones just learning to use a sippy cup to grasp. The spout is soft and long, making it easy for them to transition from a bottle to this cup.

I had several problems with this cup, however. The first two times I filled it with water my 9 month old son managed to loosen the top and spill the entire contents of the cup onto his lap. Secondly, there are WAY too many parts to this cup. Seriously... five pieces? This makes it hard to clean. Lastly, the protective top is difficult to remove, especially if your hands are wet.

Although this is a good bisphenol-A-free option, I would not buy another one.

Wow! Five parts for a CUP? That is one fancy gadget! I'm sorry you had a bad experience but thank you for sharing so that I will know to avoid this product.

Really strange that they couldn't get both the materials and the design right. What's so hard about a sippy cup, right?

Thermos makes a great plastic-free sippy cup now. I just switched over to all BPA free products and we love the thermos sippy cup. It also keeps drinks cool and fresh for several hours.
