Avis Rental Cars
By Joni Lambert onFor our recent vacation to Florida, my husband and I reserved a rental car online with Avis before leaving for our trip.We knew we wouldn't be using the car much, so the only requirement was that it have air conditioning, so we reserved an economy car.
When we got to the Avis counter at the Ft. Myers airport, the clerk behind the counter asked us, "Would you like to upgrade to the next level car. Say, a Pontiac Vibe? It's only $5 more a day."
We declined and she continued to process our transaction. She never looked at us, though, which seemed odd to me. She gave us the keys and directed us to the lot.We found the car, which was not an economy car, but a Pontiac Vibe.Apparently, they didn't have enough economy cars and HAD to upgrade us. We thought is was funny, but didn't appreciate Avis trying to get us to pay for thier error.
The car itself was fine. It was clean and did the job.Other than the deception, the service was fine.

That was pretty slick of Avis to try to get you to pay for an upgrade when the vehicle that you reserved wasn't available! Most rental agencies will just upgrade you gratis.
