Axe Brand Oil - Aches, Pains, Scare Bugs
By Eggy onAxe Brand Universal Oil - This Asian Secret is now known in the West
Axe Brand Universal is an aromatic medicated oil that has been used by Asian physicians and families for more than 60 years. If you have never used it before, then imagine rubbing alcohol infused with essential oils and very strong aroma of Eucalyptus and Menthol.
Axe Oil is colorless, stainless, and is great for massaging on sore muscles. Its warm feeling and soothing smell, tends to comfort you.You can put a couple of drops on their forehead to treat motion-sickness, 'giddiness', or drowsiness.
It is widely prescribed and used as a home remedy for a variety of ailments. It is popular to treat stuffiness, used like Vick's Vaporub. Many older people use it to treat the pain of Rheumatism. My granny would rub it on our tummies when we had upset stomachs. It helps reduce pain of minor itches and insect bites.
I use Axe Oil for many non-medical uses, such as:
Sprinkling it along the baseboard in the kitchen to prevent ants.
Wearing it in the garden to repel mosquitoes and flies (It does not stain clothes or irritate the skin).
Removing gummy price tag stickers from new products.
While many people, myself included, like the aroma of Axe Oil, fragrance sensitive people might find it too strong.
Axe Oil is manufactured in Singapore by the the Leung Kai Fook Medical Company. It is widely available at the medical counter in Asian markets or on-line (sometimes via Amazon Marketplace). The formula was developed by a German physician and was given to a new Chinese resident of Singapore in the 1920's. Originally sold under a Chinese family name label, it was changed to Axe Brand to cater to more nationalities. In Malay, it is known as 'Minyak Cap Kapak'.
The formula is listed as Menthol crystals 20%, Eucalyptus Oil 15%, Methyl Salicylate 15%, Camphor 5%,Essential oil 12%.
It is typically sold in very small glass bottles with a black plastic top. If you are lucky you might find a larger size bottle which is more frequently used by doctors, masseuses, and reflexologists. The bottles are always packaged in a sealed green and white box which helps ensure that it has not been refilled and also protects the bottle during travel or shipping.
Axe Brand Universal Medicated Oil is has many uses! As they say, it is "Relief in a Bottle".

I have some bottles and it really works on pains, cold etc. I do like the smell. But all other members of my family don't like it. So, all may not prefer it. Anyway, thanks for posting it here!
I've used this since I was a small child... didn't know it could be used to repel insects though.
I've never heard of this. I will have to try it though!
