Baby Einstein Play Gym By Tina Lehman on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The Baby Einstein play mat is colorful and comes with 10 different accessories to stimulate your baby visually. Some of the features make noises that babies can initiate (the birds squeak, the duck has crunchy wings, and the star lights up and plays classical music). A small pillow is included to aid in baby's tummy time, although it's a little hard to be used effectively for this. My two-year old still enjoys naming the animals printed on the mat.

Nearly everything is washable and mine has survived several trips through the spin cycle.

One complaint is that there is no volume control on the star, and it seems a little loud. I also feel it's a little pricey for what it is. If I hadn't received it as a shower gift, I'd never have purchased it myself. There are also a ton of tags (I counted 23) on each of the little accessories. I take them off, because they are stiff and scratchy.

Wow, that does seem pricey, but you've given us good info. Thanks!

That's a lot of tags! Sounds cute, but a sounds control would be nice. :-)

I've also noticed a lot of baby toys are way too loud. I appreciate your honesty about the Baby Einstein Play Mat.

I love the fact that this is washable. We all know that kids can be messy! The lack of a volume control is an important issue. I hope someone writes the company and they make that change of the product. Sound is important for babies but too loud of a sound isn't healthy. If you try sounds in most baby toys it sounds almost too quiet for you. But for a child...it's just the right volume. Great product!

I love Baby Einsteins! :o) This sounds like a very cute play mat, although it does seem like A LOT of tags! You would think makers would specifically put LESS amount of tags on baby toys...but that's just in my opinion.

Ugh, one of my main pet peeves with kids toys/etc is when there is NO volume control. And it does seem a bit on the expensive side, but if you get a lot of use out of it or have more than one kid that can use it, probably worth it.

I love Baby Einstein too & I would have balked at the price so it's even better that you received this as a gift.!! This sounds like a wonderful mat-I'm sure it is since it's Baby Einstein!!

oh man, Nana and Papa got this for my son for Christmas and he LOVES it! Now that he's old enough to sit up and grab the star he likes to pull it down and just hold it. It's not as entertaining as it used to be (when all he could do is just lay there and kick at it and grab at the toys) but I like pairing it with other toys in his play yard like a infant's piano or his Winnie-The-Pooh tree.

I just looked at ours and it has three options for volume control: loud, not so loud, and off. I also did remember the tags. My son liked playing with them so I didn't cut them off. It is a lot of tags, though, and unfortunately it's almost a requirement to put so much information on these things anymore. If I remember correctly, though, most of the tags were blank on the back, so perhaps they could bring the cost down a little by printing on both sides? LOL!
