Baby Hand And Footprint Keepsake In Clay By Lexxia on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I will have to get a photo of this once baby arrives - this is an adorable little keepsake for any baby's parents or as a gift to a new mom and baby. I purchased this at Mexx, it's such an understated little kit but the value it has to the parents of a new born baby is immeasurable.
This kit comes with a round package of white clay that is specially designed to remain soft until the baby's hands/feet prints are imbedded into it and is packaged in a protective cellophane to keep it air tight until opened and used. It is then left to air dry and becomes a permanent keepsake for years to come all contained within a beautiful, suede light grey presentation box. The box is similar to a little round hat box that is so popular nowadays.
On the top lid of the box is printed "First hand and footprints". It is just one of many in a collection that is purchased separately and other items that can be purchased include photo albums, hair/tooth and bracelet holder keepsakes, a birth certificate scroll and picture frames.
This particular little kit was only Cdn $29.99 and once the baby's feet and hand prints are taken, by simply stepping the baby into the clay for a few seconds and pressing their hands into the clay as well, gently until the impression is captured, it air dries and becomes a lasting wonderful memory of just how tiny the little one once was. It is also surprisingly light and is suitable to be mounted on a wall or left on a coffee or end table.
A very nice gift to give to any new mother to be that can be done by them at home, any time.
Mexx Hand and footprint clay keepsake

Right after my daugther was born 9 years ago, I had her foot done in one of these. Each year on her Birthday I take it out and I am so amazed at how little she was and how big she is now. Good luck with the baby!!!
I gotta say it! Wait for it..... AWWwwwwwww! (wink) These are great keepsakes. I made one the old fashion way in pre-K I guess and my Mom had it for as long as she kept house. Good write!
What a beautiful idea. When my son was born, I drew a template of his foot onto some thick aluminum and it came out like a beautiful embossed piece of artwork. I added the tiome and date and framed it - I have it to this day - almost 9 years later :-) (and intend on having it forever). Thanks for another wonderful share.
