Baby Video Monitor By Jennifer Regan By Jennifer Regan on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I decided to get a video monitor when my son started climbing out of his crib. I really wanted some sort of nanny cam so I could visually check on my son without opening the door, and possibly waking him up. I decided on the Summer Infant video monitor because of Summer Infant's reputation.

The system is really easy to set up. Simply plug in the camera, plug in the monitor, and turn them on. Both need to be plugged in, so that may dictate where you use them. The camera has a pretty good range. I have it stationed across the room from my son's crib, and I can still get a really clear picture.

The monitor is supposed to have a range of about 350 feet, but when I move the monitor more than 20-30 feet away, the picture seems to turn to static. You can adjust the picture a bit and there are two channels to help prevent interference with other monitors in the area.

The camera unit has LED lights that allow you to still see your baby at night. The picture is surprisingly clear at night, which I am really happy with! I also like the sound quality and that you can adjust the volume.

I highly recommend getting a video monitor for your nursery. You can purchase an extra camera for this monitor to watch two kids or two separate rooms. Talk about piece of mind!

Isn't it just great the things they have for babies (and parents) these days?

I have given this monitor as a shower gift-I think it should practically be a given for new parents!
