Banana Boat Misses the Boat
By PrincessMichelle77 onI recently purchased a tube of Banana Boat Sport sunblock, SPF 50. The product claims to block UVA/UVB rays and it also says it is waterproof and sweatproof for 80 minutes.
I am very serious about protecting my skin from the sun. I always wear sunblock, I don't stay out in the sun for long periods of time on a regular basis. I don't wish to have premature aging or skin cancer down the road so I try to protect my skin as much as possible.
My fiance and I recently were going to the beach with some friends that were visiting. I knew we would be going in the water and be exposed to the extreme Florida heat more than normal (hence sweating more) so I wanted to get a "better" sunblock than our every day one.
I picked up this Banana Boat sport because of the features I listed in my opening sentences, waterproof/sweatproof, spf 50 and blocks UVA/UVB rays. We both applied the sunblock before heading to the beach and trust me, I put on a lot! We got into the water not too long after arriving and stayed in the water for approximately an hour. After getting out of the water we reapplied the sunblock and were on the beach for about 2 more hours sometimes in the sun, sometimes not. During that time we both noticed that our skin was feeling kind of tender and we were getting red so we put on more sunscreen. We both got sunburned badly. This is the worst sunblock I have ever used. I probably would have been better off just using my every day sunblock but I thought this one would be better for our activity because of it's claims.
It doesn't appear to be waterproof or sweatproof and it obviously does not block UVB rays because we both got burned. Next time I will just stick to my regular sunblock as I think it will do a better job than this did.

I have used Banana boat and found that quite good .Looks like the product quality has gone down.
Hmm, I think I would have contacted the manufacturer with your story, something that advertises itself that way that doesn't work should be taken off the market.
wow, I can't believe such a popular brand didn't work... Banana Boat used to be good...
Thanks for the warning I have looked at this a few times at the store I will stay clear.
please try the sunscreen called NO-AD. You will like that one. I buy it in the 50 or 60 spf range. Has worked very well for me. JOEY
