Barbara Greenwood A Pioneer Sampler By eclecticbird on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I love all things history, which is probably why I'm a history teacher! One of my favorite periods to teach and read about is the time of Westward Expansion. My love affair with this time period started with the Little House books and over time I've added books that have that same Little House feel to my library. This is one of the best books I've found. I listed it under nonfiction because of the factual information, but it is primarily a fictional story that follows the life of a made up family.

It is great for children and adults of all ages. Young children will like the story that tells what daily life was like while older children and teens will like the explanation of specific activities that they can try themselves. Adults, such as myself, can enjoy both aspects of the book. The illustrations are also lovely and complete the book nicely.
