Bear Country Usa; South Dakota By TKDDad on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
We arrived here right when they opened. This is the best time to go the animals were very active.
Bear Country in South Dakota is a drive through wildlife park. We saw elk, bison, wolves and of course bears. Most of the animals were eating and walking around. When we got to the bear area though they were more active then the rest of the animals. We had one bear that was just sitting in the middle of the road. This guy would not move, you can not honk at the animals so everyone had to go around him. I swear that bear enjoyed that too.
After the driving part you can park and they have a walking area called "Babyland". This place is worth the walk. We saw many baby animals such as otters, leopards, raccoons, gray wolf, and of course tons of baby bears. These babies made the show. My family spent a good amount of time watching the baby bears play and wrestle with each other. We got a lot of nice pictures of the little guys. This was the most popular spot in Babyland, there were a lot of people around that area. Luckily though it is a big area and there is plenty of room for a lot of people to watch.
There is no shade though so I can see in the middle of the afternoon that area being hot!
After we were done watching the baby bears we finished walking through Babyland and then stopped at the little eatery they had. They do not have much, but we were hungry so we found something. If you can I would eat before arriving here.
This is a great place to visit when in the Rapid City area. I would recommend it to any family.
Bear Country USA Rapid City, South Dakota

Sounds like a great place. My folks loved SD!
I'd probably spend hours in Babyland. :) That bear sitting in the middle of the road and enjoying the trouble he created for visitors is funny!!
this is the first time I've heard about this place - thanks for the info
I've never heard of this before! It souns like a lot of fun and I bet my daughter would love it. I'll have to check it out when I am in the SD area.
I think my daughter would love this, especially Babyland.
Sounds like another great place to look forward to;)
This sounds like a fun place to visit. Although, I've traveled through Rapid City, SD, I missed this place. If I have the opportunity to return, I'll have to stop at Bear Country.
My 4 year old grandson would love this place! And so would I :o)
I love bears both live and stuffed:) I want to visit this place. It sounds like an ideal way to spend some quality family time. bears are such intelligen creatures that observing them is a sheer joy.
I like the idea of a drive through animal park. It seems like a good way to see animals close up.
