My place is known for cane woods and its products. There are a number of products including flower vase, sofa sets, tables, decorative items, recliner, etc. made out of cane woods. Moreover, cane woods are extensively used for interior decorations and roofing of cars (occassionally). The sofa set in the picture is made out of cane, which was purchased about six months ago for 6400 Indian Rupees. The cost of the sofa set in terms of U S Dollars will come around 140$ approximately at the time of purchase. The sofa set is purchased from a local furniture shop where they had a number of trained artisans to build their furniture's.

The cane sofas are made out of dried cane woods. After the matured cane woods are collected, they are dried well under the sun and then assembled to form different furnishing items like sofa chairs, tables, recliner, and also used in interior decorations, etc. The main benefit of cane woods is that the quality does not deteriorate with time. The wood mites can not affect them as they are well dried under sun before using in the making of furniture's and fixtures.

After completion of the products, the cane wood is burnished well so as to give an additional glaze to the furniture's. The legs of the chairs and tables are made out of two or more whole cane woods and the other parts where there is less stress may use sliced parts or fibers of the cane wood. To keep the canes in position during the process of making, the artisans use nails and hereafter they wraps cane fibers (they work as ropes) to tie and cover the nailed parts. The tying gives the strength to the article made out of it.

My cane wood sofa set is very light and so it is easy to carry from one place to another. The chairs can be rough handled without much worry of breakages. These are strong enough and don't break easily unless you put stress in a particular part of the chair or table. I like the simplicity of the sofa set and so it decorates my drawing room. I had put some cushion to enrich the look of the sofa set. It is a nice product for making of furniture's and I will always rate cane wood products over similar products made of wood or steel.
