Beirut The Flying Club Cup By ButtProblem on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Zach Condon is the main face behind the band Beirut. His music sounds like an entire orchestra playing wonderfully beautiful songs. Ukuleles, horns, accordions, glockenspiels, drums, violins, cellos and more all fill Beirut's music with a fully layered feel that everyone can appreciate. The sound can be described as folky, a sort of more orchestrated Bob Dylan - it reminds me of gypsies. He can be compared to artists like Grizzly Bear, Sufjan Stevens, Animal Collective, and Andrew Bird. The Flying Club Cup features and entire album that has no guitars, but it still has just as much emotion and power as any more rock based song has. Beirut is defiantly not very mainstream and it is different than a lot of music out there but it is full of emotion and feeling and is overall simply beautiful.

I absolutely love the music of Beirut. Their songs are one of a kind, and Zach Condon's voice is something you can't find anywhere else. In their music videos, they record live and the camera follows them as they walk down an alley or up a set of stairs in an old apartment complex. The music is authentic and can't be replicated or mimicked. It's cool to see an American band take on the world with recording in other countries, etc. It's something you can't find anywhere else. I highly recommend it.
