Belinda Carlisle Finds Heaven On Earth By nightwing on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Heaven on Earth is Belinda Carlisle's second release as a solo artist and her most successful album by far. The album spawned three hit singles and a newly glamorous-looking Belinda was all over MTV her hit music videos.

With this album, Belinda created a sound that she would stick to for her next few albums. The production was much slicker than that on her previous disc or any of the Go-Go's albums. We were met with extremely polished songs that went well with Belinda's new look that accompanied the collection.

The title song was by far the most popular of the songs here, but the song doesn't do much for me. It's too bouncy and catchy for my tastes. The other two hit singles are much more to my tastes: I Get Weak and Circle in the Sand. Both of these songs are ballads, with Circle in the Sand being the most original sounding of the two. Her vocals on this song are really strong. In fact, her vocals on the entire disc are much more controlled and powerful than previously heard.

She does a fun cover of Cream's classic song I Feel Free. Nobody Owns Me has a nice powerpop sound to it.

A strong collection of songs here and representing what seems like a new Belinda.
