Belinda Carlisle Goes Solo From The Go Go's By nightwing on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

This is Belinda Carlisle's debut album as a solo artist, following the breakup of the Go-Go's. It's a good album, certainly better than the last two Go-Go's albums that preceded it.

The best song here is the lone hit single, Mad About You. It is a great song that was all over the radio the summer it was released. Belinda Carlisle gives a great vocal performance on the song, and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran brings his guitar in to join in the fun.

The ballad Stuff and Nonsense is very good and has a nice stripped-down sound to it. It has some great lyrics. Band of Gold is a fun cover, and I Feel the Magic is probably my second favorite song on the album. It's the sort of song that I can imagine a sixties girl group having performed. It's bouncy, light, and fun.

All in all, this is a good debut from Belinda. It's a bit of a transition record as she leaves her band behind. With her next CD she will hone what will become her signature sound. This album has more of a raw and varied sound than her later works will have.
