Belly Butter By LJohnson on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I've used other Burt's Bees products and love their quality, and especially the fact that they use all natural ingredients, so I was excited to try out their Mama Bee Belly Butter when I was pregnant with my second child.
The tub of Belly Butter is 6.6 oz and was more than enough to last my entire pregnancy (although I never did remember often enough to use daily) and I didn't need very much per application. When first taking some "Butter" out of the tub, it was more solid than I'd anticipated, but after working it a bit on my belly, it did start to spread easier and rubbed in and absorbed well, with minimal residue left on my hands. It was a nice consistency, heavy enough to quell the itchies and soothe dry skin. I'm not a believer that you can prevent stretch marks, and this product reinforces that belief. Who's to say if I used it every day - the results may have been different, but I did end up with stretch marks (again!!).
The one area that I was really disappointed in was the smell. Although not horrible, the smell certainly wasn't appealing. It was borderline non-descript, and while I can see not having something heavily scented as pregnant ladies can have sensitive noses and are prone to nausea, something with a sweeter smell would have certainly had me applying more butter to my belly!
So for a nice, thick butter for that baby belly without the chemicals, preservatives, additives and other icky chemicals of the other brands, this is a good product. Just don't expect to smell like honey!

I don't know if it is the cookies as your icon or the fact that this product is called belly butter, but next pregnancy I am buying this!
I will keep this in mind IF I ever have another baby. I will also pass along this info to my preggo friends.
I am 110 pounds and carried a 10 pound baby all out in front. I was asked many times if I has having twins. Yes, I was huge. I used this product faithfully every day and did not get one stretch mark. I am a firm believer in it.
I have never heard of this, I used cocoa butter when I was pregnant. I thought burts bees products were know for great scents, sorry this one was not one of them.
Too bad about the smell. I was hoping you would say it smelled something like the Burt Bee's lip balms....they smell pepperminty! That would be nice if it could be changed to have a more pleasant scent. I used something called Mother's Helper when I was pregnant. It was more like a baby oil product. It stained my clothes, but it was worth it because I didn't get any stretch marks from either pregnancy! Maybe you could suggest a better scent to the company?
I was surprised to hear that the fragrance wasn't sweet. When you hear the name "Burt's Bees" you do think of honey!
This sounds like a product I would have liked to have tried when I was pregnant. Anything to make that itchiness go away was welcome. Though I would agree a nice smell would be preferable.
I love Burt's Bees products. Never heard of this one though but it sounds all right. I'm not pregnant so I wouldn't need it for that reason but I would still probably just use it anyway.
Burt's Bees has great products & it's no fun when you're pregnant having to warm up butter to put on your belly!!
