best nights sleep...every
By cukal6 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011We bought our Select Comfort Sleep number bed about 6 years ago after going to every furniture and bed store within a 50 mile radius.I wanted soft, my husband wanted firm.We could not agree on anything.
If you've never heard of the sleep number bed, there are two air chambers. Each person gets their own remote to set the firmness of their side.0 being the softest, 100 being the firmest.Mine is currently set at 45.
Set up of the bed is simple. It's a foam foundation in which the two air chambers slide into. Then there's a pillow top that zips on.I think it took less than 30 minutes before we had it installed into our existing frame. The pump that airs up the mattresses goes under the bed.It can be a little loud when you run it but it's only about 30 seconds. It will also beep at you if the power goes out and comes back on.
Thafirst night was amazing.I had never slept so well and I continue to sleep well.I still enjoy a soft mattress but when I was pregnant, I was able to bump it up to 90..about as firm as it will get.You can't do that with any other bed.
The cost was a little high compared to what we were looking at in other stores, but well worth the money. It also comes with a 20 year limited warranty but we haven't had any problems yet.If you go to the Sleep Number store, they will let you try out all the beds they have in the showroom. You can also have one delivered and try it for 30 days.
WE love our sleep number and will definitely buy another one when the time comes.
Update On Apr 20, 2008: The pump only runs when the power goes out and then comes back on.And it only runs for a few seconds.

I wondered if these actually worked like they say on the ads. Now I know:0) We probably need one of these too!
Wow, you have made me realize that there are one or two things hubby and I agree on... we both like firm. But if we didn't we'd need one of these for sure. Sometimes I think a dual-control electric blanket saved our marriage!
I know these are expensive mattresses but I have heard nothing but great things about them. I think it's a great investment especially if you and your hubby want a different firmness in the mattress. I like that you were able to change the firmness when you needed it. So the air pump goes under the bed? Does it continually run or just when the power goes out?
They have one of the funniest commercials of all time with the big dog sharing the bed
I have seen the commercials for this. It sounds wonderful. I like the idea of being able to adjust the firmness. Thanks for the information.
Thank you for really getting into the nitty gritty of the Sleep Number Bed. I have often wondered about the set up and the pump and have never heard it explained the way that you did.
My parents have one of these and love it. The only thing my dad doesn't like is that the cat now prefers HIS side of the bed instead of my mom's, lol.
My husband & I have been in the market for an upgraded mattress-we might have to look into this!
How do you figure out your sleep number? Do you just try different things and see what you like the best? Thanks for the info.
