Better Homes And Gardens Junior Cookbook By Alicia Bodine on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

My daughter love to cook new things so I bought her the New Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book. It looked appealing from the description and looked like it would be perfect for her age level. Despite that there were a few things I did not like about the book. I will start with the pros first.

Pros

The book somes with safety instructions, how to set the table diagrams, and some basic measuring instructions. Too often cook books for kids do not include that type of information and kids who are just learning how to cook need that info the most.

Cons

The recipes are basic ones that most kids old enough to cook know how to do. For example, the first two pages are pancakes and french toast. For lunch you can find grilled cheese and tacos. My daughter already knows how to make them. I can't think of any kid that doesn't know how to make grilled cheese.

I suggest you take a look at this book if it is in a library, but don't spend money on it.

It sounds like a sweet idea for them to have their own cookbook but I understand what you are saying about them being too basic. I think passing down your own cookbook to them would be better. The recipes can be done together and make it more memorable!
