Big Red Barn, written by Margaret Wise Brown, has been a favorite of children for years.It tells of a day on a farm where all the animals play and makes noises all day long, then go to the big red barn to go to sleep at night.
My daughter has liked this book since she was about 18 months old.At 2 years, she can now follow along and name animals and imitate their noises.She also likes to search for the little hidden butterfly that is on nearly every page.
This is a delightful story, with beautiful illustrations by Felicia Bond.The text rhymes, but not in a bouncy rhythym, so it is soothing and nice to read just before bedtime.
We have the board book version and it has held up well.I highly recommend this book for your little one.

I love this author. Great books for kids like this one and "Goodnight Moon".
It makes me so sad to know our kids are probably too old for this book. Sounds like a great gift for toddler/preschool age though. :) Thanks.

Kids love animal sounds. I'm sure this would be a favorite of a lot of young children.
I think it's a good idea to get kids books in hardback like you have. Sounds like she is having a fun time with this one. :-)
This sounds like an absolutely charming book and I love that there is a hidden butterfly on each page. Great job on your description, really makes me want to look for this and have it handy for little ones that come to visit!!
The Big Red Barn sounds like a really cute book! Your description of it with the animal sounds reminds me of a toy that my cousin used to have, a red barn with little animals that made all of the farm animal noises... I actually remember playing with it. Thanks for the memory!
The importance of reading to your children can not be over stated. And this book sounds like a really good one too.
