A couple of months ago, my credit union began offering a free online bill paying service. At first, I was a bit skeptical. I'm still getting used to doing so many financial transactions onlne but I've been a member of this credit union for about 15 years and trust them so I figured I'd give it a try. I was shocked at how easy it was to set up my "payees" (the companies that I need to pay) and schedule payments for some.

My husband is in charge of budgeting for bills in our house. He usually gives me a stack to pay out of my income each month and it would take about an hour to write all the checks and seal and stamp the envelopes. I always used to put it off until the due dates were looming! The first time that I used Billpaysite.com, it took me about 5 minutes to pay the bills! I handed the stack back to my husband and said, "All done!" He said, "Where are the checks you wrote?" I told him I no longer needed to write out the checks because I did it all online! I showed him the page and all the verifications. He was leary too until he got the next month's statements and all were paid - and on time too! The only small negative to this service is that I have to pay a $5 service fee if I do not make at least two payments during the month. I made sure that would not happen by scheduling two of my bills to be automatically paid by the service each month.
