Bioshock

You emerge from the water, dazed and shaken, as you watch the plane you were on only seconds ago sink to the bottom of the ocean. When you get your head together and take a look at your surroundings, you realize that there is a large tower-like structure escalating out of the water. With no other option, you press on towards the tower, where inside you are taken to the depths of Rapture via elevator.

Rapture is an underwater city established by a man, Andrew Ryan, who was fed up with the political systems of the modern world. He rejected their ideas, and to prove it, started his own civilization to show that his ideals were the superior.

Thanks to the brilliant minds at 2k Games, Rapture is a truly beautiful place. With an Art Deco art style and beautiful lighting, the graphics of Bioshock really set the mood.

The gameplay is fantastic as well, revolving around a 'plasmid' system in addition to traditional FPS fare. Plasmids are a type of drug. Inject them into your blood stream and they will grant you short term abilities such as the power to freeze people, incinirate them, shock them, and so on.

Bioshock is one of, if not the game of the year for 2007, and I urge everyone to give it a shot.
