Black wooden swivel Bankers style office chair
By dsnygrl onWhen we saw the Madison swivel office chair in antique black on clearance at Target, we were very excited. It was the perfect match to our desk that we needed a chair for and at only $64.99, it was the best deal out there too.
The chair is made of solid wood and is heavy. It has an adjustable base, a 360 degree spin and casters for easy mobility. We have ours on carpet with no chair mat under it and it still moves easily. There are 5 legs on the bottom not 4 like on some office chairs so it is very well balanced and does not pose a threat of tipping over. This is a huge plus for us since my 6 year old thinks it is a toy and spends many hours spinning in circles on it. I love the antique black finish because my children have been very rough on the chair by banging into the desk and putting their shoes all over it. Most of the damage they have caused, blends in with the finish.
The chair came unassembled in a large, heavy box and was difficult to put together taking almost an hour. Many of the holes did not line up properly and in one part of the directions they were reversed to what they should have been and my husband had to take it back apart and do it over. This caused one of the screws to get stripped in the hole and not go back in tightly. Being a stubborn man, he was determined to fix it and did so by filling the hole with gorilla glue and then screwing in the screw. That screw is NEVER coming out.
While I love the look and design of the chair, the problem I have with it is comfort. It's solid wood and it's hard. I have added a cushion to the seat and that has helped a little but even with the cushion, this chair is not comfortable to sit in for long periods of time.

It IS a very good looking chair, especially at that price. Maybe if you buy a very thick cushion or even make one for the seat and back it would help. The hard wooden lip on the seat is what ends up hurting the backs of your legs though. Still I'd buy this in a heartbeat.
Still the chair looks beautiful. I have the same problem with my oak chair. I put a pillow and cushion on it and it still isn't very comfortable.
What a beautiful looking chair - too bad you have to sacrafice comfort.
It IS a cool looking chair! Reminds me of the old-time chairs from the 40's office settings. Unfortunately, looks and comfort don't always go hand in hand.
I love the look of this! I was going to suggest the same thing that Froggy did about possibly getting a thick cushion for the back of the chair.
Looks nice for the price but comfort is important in a work chair
What a great deal for such a good chair.
that looks nice, but I agree with you I don't think I would be comfortable in it for a long period of time. I need a soft cushion chair :)
I've never seen one like this. Mine is padded, as my butt would hurt if I sat in a wood chair. It looks , sexy though!
ahhh the joy of putting together computer or office furniture! LOL It looks like a great chair though.
