Blue Mountain
By Kakoa on - Updated Oct 15, 2011I haven been to Blue Mountain twice and have loved every minute of it! This was actually the first place I ever skied. It was great because they offered small beginning hills to practice on, without having to resort to the bunny hill. :-)
Both times I went, I went with a big group of college friends. We stayed in a chalet that was right down the street from the resort entrance. It was not technically part of the resort, but it felt like it was right on the same grounds. Same with the place where you rented the equipment, it was between the ski resort and the place we were staying.
The resort itself is huge! It has 34 trails, 3 terrain parks, 2 pipes, and a tubing run. There are also some cross country skiing trails at the top of the mountain, but I did not go on any of those. There are 14 lifts, including 4 high speed lifts that get you up the hill fast. These newer ones hold up to 5 people comfortably. Trails range from beginner to double back diamond. There are even some with small moguls.
One thing I like about this place is that some of the trails connect to each other. We would start off on one trail and want to head to the other side of the park to another tail. It was easy to ride one lift to the top and ski the connecting slopes back down until you were where you wanted to be.
Also, another great thing is that at the top of some of the lifts there are snack shacks. You can stop for food up there to avoid the crown at the resort. There is not a big variety of food at the resort. They focused more on rooms than eating here. From what I can remember, there was one main cafeteria and a few specialty places in the resort.
One year, my brother got hurt on the slope. He ended up cutting his elbow open down to the tendon. Some of our friends skied down to get help and I started to help him down the hill. The ski patrol started up the hill to meet us right away. Once we got to the bottom, they did a great job of taking care of him and getting him to the hospital for stitches.
I can't wait to get back to Blue Mountain, but I am a little weary to go these days. The cost of the rooms have shot up since we last went. I think we will have to stay a little further out in a hotel from now on. For more info, check out the link below.
Update On Apr 02, 2008: I forgot to say that this ski resort is in Collingwood, Ontario in Canada. After crossing the bridge in Detroit, Michigan (Ambassador Bridge) it took about 5 hours to get there.

Sounds like a great place, although I would also be weary or the increasing price. Wish I could afford to go!
Um... Blue Mountain, where? But it sounds like a lot of fun!
This sounds like a ton of fun. I am looking for a good ski vacation for next year!
Sounds like a lot of fun:0) Wish I found the time to go skiing this year:0(
Thanks for adding the part saying where this was, I was wondering. I have always wanted to learn to ski but fear of the dreaded bunny hill always keeps me away. I like that they have other small hills for you to learn on, thanks for the info.
I was just wondering where it was when I saw your update on that information. Wow...it sounds like a good days car ride for me. I might have to check out this place. I haven't been skiing in ages!
Wow it sounds like a great place to enjoy skiing. Too bad I don't ski (never been on a pair of skis) and too bad it's in Canada and now you need a passport to even get into Canada. Oh well --- sounds like a fun place
Sounds like a pretty crazy place with all those trails and stuff. I have only been skiing once and I wasn't super great at it, but I loved the snow....as long as I don't have to live in it!
Sounds like a fun place to go skiing. I myself don't ski since I wound up on crutches twice from it.
