Bmw R1100 Rt By verjavec on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
We recently purchased this bike used. It is a 1999 and has just over 85,000 miles on it, but since it is a BMW, we know it's good for at least 3x that. It rides like it's brand new!
The suspension is adjustable, so when my husband and I ride on it together, we can stiffen it up. The seat is adjustable, so when he rides, it can be on the lowest setting as he is 6'6". When my 5'6" self gets on there, I put the seat on the highest setting. This maximizes the comfort for both of us and makes it a great bike for sharing. The windscreen is also adjustable.
There is a "glove box" on this bike. This reduces the need for a tank bag or back pack because you can put keys, wallet, cell phone, etc in the cubby - it's right next to the tank and it locks to keep it safe.
This is more of a touring bike, so the ride is more upright. This eases the pressure on my arms and wrists and keeps my back from getting sore. It still has the maneuverability of a sport bike though, so no worries of having the foot pegs scrape on the ground when you make a nice tight corner.
I only have one complaint - my husband gets to ride it to and from work every day and I have to wait until he is home with the kids to take it out.

I can related to BMW's in cars. We bought a BMW with 80,000 miles on it and 120,000 miles later it is still running. It goes in and out of the shop but it's still going.
Didn't know BMW made motorcycles. But I am not a motorcycle person, so I don't know many of the brands.
I am very sacred of them. But seems nice one
My Daddy had BMW bike yearsssssssssssssssssss back, lol
I didn't know BMW makes bikes -- of course I don't know much about motorcycles.
I hear yah on the having to wait for your hubby to get home so you can ride it. LOL
Fun, fun, fun!! Hmm...Mother's Day is coming up.....maybe your husband can get YOU your very own bike!!!!!
We have a friend with a BMW. That bike is beautiful and old. I mean really old, I believe he's had it for 20 years. It still looks incredible. My husband has been thinking about one of these because they are so long lasting. I did not know they were so adjustable. I may have to be more supportive towards the purchase. Thanks.
This sounds like a great bike! I love that it has a little "glove box," how convienent is that? I always thought those bags looked kind of goofy on motorcycles. I think you need to get up earlier and sneak out on the bike before your hubby does!! :o)
lol.. I love the complaint part! Sounds like a great bike.
