Bob Books By youngers on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Following our nighttime tradition of reading, I knelt down beside my kindergartner's bookcase to choose that evening's read. During our last visit with our pediatrician, Bob Books were recommended for when our son began to read. I picked up the first set at Barnes and Noble for about $18 and last night I handed Alex the first short book. I asked if he could read any of it, and he surprised me when he could sound out the short three-letter words. The look of pride on his face was priceless. By the time he finished the last page I was in tears. His father was beaming, and our son, not knowing the trademarked phrase of the set, proclaimed "I read the WHOLE book!"

Bob Books use short words and introduce a couple letters with each book (excluding "Q", which for some reason disappointed our son). The first set contains 12 books. The characters are simple and easy for kids to draw. Our son loves to draw Sam and Mat as evidenced by the artwork on our refrigerator. We own many, many different kinds of first reader books, and Bob Books are hands-down the absolute best books for your beginning reader.
