Bostonian Men's Dress Shoe By Jessica Ne on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Well here is yet another review of one of my husbands products. He is very picky when it comes to shoes and it takes him a long time to decide on the fit, brand, and style. His latest shoe is from Bostonian, It is called the Pollino. The Pollino is a modern and contemporary take on a classic bicycle stitch style shoe.

First one notices that the Pollino is almost two-tone, this is created by different textures in the shoe. The sides and back of the shoe are 100% calfskin and the top is Italian deer skin. These are both very soft leathers that last a long time and have little break in time. They also do not crack with wear and age. As my husband says, they are like wine, they only get better with age.

The inside of the shoe is designed for all day comfort and durability. They are fully lined on the inside with leather including a leather sock liner, which is the insole. This includes an extra padding in the heel area. This is done to create a shoe that instead of trapping moisture and sweat, like cloth, it actually allows it to evaporate which fights irritation and odor/bacteria. Bostonian also tacks down the tongue to keep it from sliding around during wear.

Another great thing about the Pollino is the lower, the outsole of the shoe. The entire sole, excluding a small portion of the heel stack, is leather and is replaceable if it ever wears thin. This shoe has a Bostonian exclusive called the First Flex leather sole. Basically this means the sole bends and wears almost like a tennis shoe does. This is a great step forward in men's shoes as in the past the soles have been absolutely rock hard. The sole also has rubber "no slip" grippers on the bottom to help keep you sturdy with the slick leather sole.

My husband has worn everything from Rockport and Dockers to Johnston and Murphy. He has worn multiple styles with different types of leather from different price ranges. He now absolutely swears by these shoes and will probably also buy them in brown and burgundy (cordovan). The Bostonian Pollino is a very comfortable shoe to wear for work/play or any time. It even looks nice as a casual shoe. So this may be a shoe to consider when your in the market. They can be found online or at a local men's store.

Classy looking shoes for sure. I am very impressed with the softer sole, and the non-slip inserts.
