Botanical Roots Lip Creme In Berry Tint By RachelReviews on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Botanical Roots Lip Creme in Berry Tint was a gift to me from a family member for a holiday. I love shopping on Etsy.com. I see it as a direct way to support artists and craftsmen who make things by hand.

I do not find this Lip Creme to be a creme. I find it to be much more like a balm. It has a hard balm-like texture that melts slightly when applied.

I like the packaging. I tend to like metal tins, as long as the top comes off easily enough. I hate when it is too hard to pry them open. With this lip balm, the top pops off perfectly.

The fragrance is very pleasant. It smells like sweet mint. I like to think that it makes my breath smell extra fresh.

Oddly enough, the color is what made me interested in the product in the first place. I had it on my "favorites list," for a while and eventually put it on my holiday wish list. It might seem odd to want an almost black-looking lip product, but I am sometimes drawn to exotic shades. Plus, since it was described as "Berry" I figured it would be a dramatic berry shade. In fact, when I saw the lip balm online, the color sort of reminded me of the cult-product, Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, which piqued my interest even more!

I crave drama at times when it comes to makeup. Though, the Berry Tint appears so dark in the tin, on my lips, the color payoff of the lip creme leaves a lot to be desired. It barely registers as a slightly plummy-darker than my lip look. It is so, so subtle, though! Definitely a natural look.

I have found that the balm lasts a long time on my lips, even after I drank water it stayed on. I find the balm to have a slight, cold tingling sensation that I like.

The color choices are pretty decent especially for a small company that makes everything by hand. The Lip Creme comes in 3 colors: Berry (Plum Tone), Ginger (Warm Peach Tone) and Clear (Transparent Shine). Additionally, they have lip shimmers in different colors which come in wands.

The product is not oil-free, nor would I want it to be since it is a lip balm. The more hydrating a lip balm is the better! The ingredients are as follows, some are even organic or fairly traded: Lanolin, Castor Oil (organic), Sweet Almond Oil (organic), Glycerin, Cocoa Butter (organic and fairly traded), Beeswax, Alkanet (organic), Glitter and Essential OIls (organic)

The lip cremes cost $6.00.
