Bowflex Select Tech 552 Dumbbells By Olin Froid on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

The Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells offers the home gym enthusiast the change to have a large range of dumbbells in a small, compact fashion. The weights range from 5 lbs. to 52.5 lbs. and are adjust with a simple click and lock of the desired weight amount in the docking station. The locking mechanism hold safely and strong, and appears to be up to repetitive use. The outside of the all metal system is coated in a sturdy strong plastic and does not flake or seem cheap in any way. The negatives I see when using this piece of equipment are mostly in the awkward size of the dumbbell. The unit itself is rather large, which may make handling it difficult for some exercises. The unit is also very expensive, which is why after a trial run, I personally opted not to keep the system. If space and a large selection of weight options are your goal, I would recommend this to you.

I agree that sometimes the expense of something which may be very nice just isn't justified.

I've seen these advertised and I wondered about the shape of them. They do look rather awkward.

Bowflex looks so interesting to me but does it really work? It looks like it will toss me across the room!
