Brains need feeding.

HI Friends, I recently was put in the situation where I had to decide yes or no on prescription drugs for my sons autism. I thought long and hard about this,and did extensive research. In my research the book,Children with Starving Brains by Jaquelyn McCandless,MD came up more that a few times.I was researching alternative options to ritalin and similar drugs. Not that there is anything wrong with ritalin, but it is not right for Alex. This book is a medical treatment guide for all Autism Spectrum Disorders. This is a book written on the mindset that there are certain environmental factors contributing to the serevity of ASD in children today. I firmly believe food and other factors need to be examined when determining the cause of this terrible syndrome. Dr. McCandless and her associates describe the different types of testing that needs to be done to bring the gastro health as well as the immune health of these children to the best possible level before you factor in prescription drugs. There are testfor food allergies. heavy metal toxicity and just basic testing to make sure of the body has the ability to absorb nutrients from the food .It also explains the advantage of detoxification,nutrients, supplements and probiotics. It is a bit of a medical read but it has helped me choose a different treatment path that has worked really well for Alex.Cheers
