Bucilla Christmas Stocking Kit
By Jan Mayrhofer onWow, what did I get myself into?! These are really, really cute, BUT they are really, really a LOT of work! Every time I end up making one of these darling stockings, I ask myself if Im crazy, or what? But then when Im finished, I get a lot of satisfaction knowing that I made something real special for the kids I love so much.
The first one I made was twenty years ago. In fact, this year when I looked for a kit to make for my new baby granddaughter, I couldnt find them in the craft stores anymore. Luckily, there were a lot of them on eBay. Im thinking maybe I better stock up now for future grandchildren.
The first three of these I made were for my children. Then I made one six years ago for my grandson. So, of course, I have to do one for his baby sister, right?
Heres the deal: these are made of felt, and there are about a hundred pieces to cut, embroider, sequin, stuff, and appliqu. This is not an exaggeration! Really, its fun, just a little intimidating when there are time constraints. I should have allowed twice the amount of time for the one Im trying to finish by Christmas Eve. (three weeks!)
I guess I know what Ill be doing every spare moment until then!

I made one similiar to these for my daughter 27 years ago! Now she has it in her home. They are a great keepsake!
Fancy, dancy! My boys (all of them) seem to care more about what's in the stocking than how cute it is!
These are so cute!! I can appreciate the work that goes into them though...thanks for sharing!
"Twice the amount of time"- how much time a day/week did you spend or do you think you could tell someone it would take to finish? Have a new nephew and I am thinking about doing one but need to know if it is at all possible.
Beautiful job on the stocking and I know how much time they take!!!
These are really nice. I can see how they would be time-consuming.
They are so cute I need to make one for my son.
those are beautiful shocks. nice design. I think many children like wearing those shocks.
