Budget Hotel... Getting Yucky By Eyes2theocean on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

When did budget hotels suddenly leap in price, yet continue to lose charm and value? Rather than spend $99 on a Motel Six or similar, I chose to save a few bucks and stay at Econolodge while on a road trip. Huge mistake. The place was run-down, and it took 5 mintues for an attendant to even show up at the front desk, at which I was waiting for service. The hotel looked shabby and dirty. The room to which I was directed was allegedly a "nonsmoking" room, however the room smelled of stale smoke, the extremely loud air conditioning unit barely cooled the room, and the entire place looked shabby and dirty and generally unpleasant. I rated rewards program as 3... I do believe one can get rewards and free stays for staying multiple times at this hotel chain. However, I could not be PAID to do so again. A big fail for this hotel.
