Tramontina brand steak knives are quite possibly the best knives I've ever used! They were a wedding gift eight years ago from our family butcher, so I knew that they would be good quality. After all, butchers know a little bit about knives!
This 12-piece set has six steak knives, which we use on everything from steak, chicken and other meats, to cutting veggies and opening plastic bags of shredded cheese. There is also a paring knife, which we use when we all the steak knives are in the dishwasher, four other knives that are much longer and bigger, and a pair of scissors. I'm guessing the other knives are for more talented "chefs" that would require boning fish or possibly chicken, or cutting through large pieces of meat. We rarely have the need to use these knives, however, so if I were to buy a set of these for myself, I might find one that has more steak knives and none of the specialty knives.
Everything features stainless steel blades and all the knives are serrated so they never need sharpening. After eight years of hard use, including regular washing in the dishwasher, these knives are as sharp as they were on our honeymoon! The scissors are excellent as well - they too stay sharp and have never been sharpened. We use them for everything imaginable, then throw them in the dishwasher when we're done. They have held up just as well as the knives! If I ever have to replace this set, I will most definitely be replacing with the same Tramontina brand.

We need new knives and I've never heard of these. Thanks so much for the heads up. It seems we are always buying them and they get dull and won't sharpen. Of course, that could be user error. Ha.
