Call of Duty 4: Modern WarfareActivision, Infinity WardAfter focusing on World War II for the past three games, Infinity Ward isfinally moving into the world of modern combat with Call of Duty 4: ModernWarfare. With all that's been going on in recent years, a first person shooterbased in today's world holds much more interest.Call of Duty 4 offers multiplayer FPS and a decent single-player campaignthat offers plenty of challenges, but doesn't last long enough to provide totalsatisfaction to the serious gamer. Increasing the level of difficulty only makesthe enemies almost unbeatable to the point of frustration. The story is told from various points of view including a new British SASoperative and a US Marine. You'll end up on a boat in the process of sinking ona rainy night and a missile silo where your goal will be to save millions from aChernobyol worst case scenario death. The plots will leave even JerryBruckheimer in awe.The real challenge of the game, as well as the duration of play, comes fromthe multiplayer action/ Up to 18 players can get online into a match of one of16 different maps with six game modes to choose from where you'll do everythingfrom carry bombs to destroy enemy equipment to capturing control points. The real advantage of this game over the past ones is more of a focus onskilled play with tactical moves. The air strike play is amazing, at one pointallowing you to set a strike wherever you choose.Overall, Call of Duty 4 is well worth purchasing and playing. It is on apar with the modern combat versions of the Battlefield series. Coupled withexceptional graphics and unexpected but awe-inspiring challenges the more youget into the game, COD4 is by far the best of the COD series and one of the bestFPS games available now, with only the single player being somewheredisappointing because it doesn't last long enough.

My youngest son loves COD and has tested COD4. He feels pretty much what you do about the single player game, but overall finds it absorbing and extremely creative.
