Call Wave...What A Headache! By Robbie on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
Callwave is a product I fist learned about years ago when we had dial up internet service. It was ok back then, as most of you know or remember when on a dial up service it tied up your phone line and people would get a busy signal if you were online. What Callwave would do is allow people to call you, it would give a brief message stating that you were online and to leave a message. The caller would leave a brief message and a box would come up on your screen, similar to a caller I.D. giving the name and number of the caller and you could playback your messages. At first it was free for 30 days, then it was $4.95 a month, inevitablly it would increase ever so often. Now it is $14.95 a month and offers a lot more services. Thankfully now I have cable internet, and then there is the ever present and dearly loved cell phones that has voice mail, text messaging and so on so the Callwave is no longer needed by me.
My reason for giving this a low rating is because for months after my service was canceled I stilled recieved bills and to this day once in awhile Callwave still picks up and I cancelled this service more than 4 years ago! But atleast I am not still being charged for it. And in all honesty I do not know of anyone who still has dial up, and for $14.95 a month it would be more efficient to just buy an answering machine that actually attaches to your phone.
Callwave Virtual Voicemail

I had this once, I didn't like it either :(
Wow, we almost signed up with this. Sure glad to know that it was good that we didn't. Sorry you had to gain this experience for us the hard way. BTW... lots of folks out in the boonies still have to put up with dial up. Thankfully we are close enough to a tower for wireless.
I used this a service back a very long time ago. I hated it. I found that it was not near as efficient as it said it was. It still missed many calls. Thanks for sharing the information about this service.
I don't know anyone that is still using dial up.
I used CallWave when it was free. One of the things that I liked about it is that if I wanted to speak with the caller I could pick up the phone within so many seconds and talk with the person. Even though on dial up the calls that came in I could listen to them in pretty much real time. Once it became a pay service, I canceled.
I don't remember callwave. I would have used it back then, but as you said It is really pointless right now, and at 14.95 a month...no thank you callwave!
Oh yeah, I remember callwave. I knew a few people who had it. I never really needed it but I'm glad now that I didn't ever pay for it. What a headache!
I used Callwave years ago, also when it was free. It was nice to know who was calling. Thank goodness I don't have dialup any longer.
LOL I knew someone who had this and I told him he should just get Yahoo messenger or AIM messenger and that way people could IM him if they needed anything while he was online! :)
They did the same thing to us. We had to call the phone company to get them to take it off.
