Car Cassette Deck Adapter By Cb Mclean on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

If you own a car with a standard cassette player, for about $10 (at your local Wal-Mart) you can purchase a car cassette adapter. It looks like a cassette tape with a wired ¾ inch plug connected to it. Insertion into your cassette deck allows you to play your ipod through your car's speaker system at CD quality! On long trips, this is fantastic! You never have to change a CD or only hear the same 6 CD's over and over again! In fact, anything that can take a ¾ inch plug will work with this adapter, your kids mp3 player or even that movie they're glued to on their portable DVD player. Whatever device you choose, this inexpensive adapter gives you quality sound and, depending on the size of your ipod, music for days! The only drawback is the wire that goes from the cassette deck into the armrest. Plus, if your car doesn't have a standard outlet, you do have to remember to turn your ipod off when you get out of the car for the day. If you can get past that, this is a steal and a great alternative to spending money on a new car stereo with it's own ipod docking station!

Use with Portable DVD Player - Normally, the adapter's audio wire is plenty long, but if your cassette deck is too far from your DVD player you will need a short audio cable that is male on one end and female on the other. Plug the adapter's wire into the ‘female' end of the audio cable. Plug the male end of the audio cable into the ‘audio out' on your DVD player. Presto! Movie surround sound for your car or old school van!

We've found that the cords on these tend to break where they connect to the adapter. We went through several before we could make a change, but they do work well if you just want to adapt the installed system.

That is a great price! We had something similar to this for our old stereo that connected our CD player to it through the cassette deck. We finally upgraded to a CD playing stereo. It doesn't have a cassette deck though, otherwise I'd go get one of these.

thats a great idea! I had never heard of these. The more I read about ipod and its functionallities, the more I want one. This would be good in my pick-up. I am affraid to put a cd player in it. If i ever get an ipod, I will get this adapter!

Believe it or not, my '02 Jeep Liberty has a cassette player, and I use this to play my mp3 player.

I have used these before and prefer them over the wireless adapters out there now. Unfortunately most of the cars I have purchased come with cd players only :(

This would be great for cars that come with cassette players!
