Cargo To The Beach! By vsimeone on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Each year, my family rents a house at the beach. Traveling to the beach with two teenage/adult children in tow means bringing a LOT of STUFF! Several years ago, we purchased a rooftop carrier to help with packing. The first was an old, hard sided carrier that was heavy and hard to use. Two years ago, we purchased the Axius Rooftop Cargo Carrier. This unit is softsided and molds to whatever you pack into it! Eventhough it is waterproof canvas, we try to pack things that wouldn't be affected by the weather if they were to get wet. Last year we loaded it with our boogie boards, fishing gear and some of the household items that we bring such as toilet paper, paper towels and napkins. In the two years that we have used it, nothing inside has ever gotten wet even when we have driven through some minor rain showers.

Using the rooftop carrier frees up room inside of our SUV for more "valuable" objects and gives the kids some room to stretch out in the back seat for our 12-13 hour drive. The carrier has helped eliminate arguements as to what to bring or what to purchase when we get there. I can pack just about anything I want and not have to worry about running to the store as soon as we pull into the house!

If you have a long drive ahead of you or plan to pack a good deal of luggage for upcoming travels, consider purchasing the Axius Rooftop Cargo Carrier!

My car does not have the little groves or bars on top for a roof rack, I wonder it this would still work? Thanks for the info, we always need more room.

I never saw one of these that was soft sided. Great information!

Wow! I had no idea that a rooftop carrier could be had for so little money! It sounds like you pack some pretty rugged material into the carrier and since nothing is getting wet, the carrier must have help up well without any rips or tears. I may have to check this out.

I am thinking I need to go to Wal_Mart now!! We have been talking about getting one, my Blazer has the roof racks but we have worried about things getting rained on..this is the perfect soloution!

My SUV already has roof racks. This sounds like a great product at a reasonable price.

Fantastic price and you can always count on Walmart to have the best values. This is something that I have never used. We don't take long trips in our van but if we did, I think this one would be perfect for us too.

Wow! A soft sided one? This is just what we need for our beach trips. I like the idea of it being soft for more expandable storage. I also like the price! I'm going to get one of these. Thanks.

I've never though about a rooftop carrier before. I bet this does free up a lot of good space. Is the one you bought hard to get up onto the roof & lock down and do you load it after it's on the roof or before? How much capcity does it hold?

Wow, I always thought rooftop carriers were really expensive. This sounds like a really great product and a great price!

I want one of these. How hard is it to attach to the top of the vehicle?
