Carolina Shoe Safety Work Boots By Rancosto on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

This is not the prettiest pair of boots, and not the lightest one, either. However, when it comes to safety, it is one of the best. We are required to wear safety boots at work, with steel toe protection in case a heavy piece of machinery decides to fall right on your foot. The store had several types of safety boots available, and the company would reimburse us up to $100 for them. I picked Carolina Shoe; they were around $125, but I was willing to pay $2 out of my own pocket for the extra protection. The boots feature leather-wrapped metatarsal guard that protects the foot from all sides. They also have a steel toe and tough soles that are slip and heat resistant. Cushion and soft lining inside make these boots much more comfortable than you would think when you look at them. I like these boots. They are a bit heavy, but comfortable enough and definitely safe. I have had them for about 6 months, and they are showing some wear, but that's okay; the boots will certainly last me a year, after which the company offers another $100 reimbursement for a new pair.

I've never found any steel-toed workboots to be lightweight on my feet. The metatarsal guard is an interesting feature. Just how solid is that if you dropped something weighing several hundred pounds directly on the top of your foot?

Well, this has not happened to anyone in our team at work (thank God), but the boots should protect the foot from getting smashed.

These look like they offer lots more protection than just steel toes. What a great company to pick up part of the price of the boots. I've dropped some pretty heavy things on my feet over the years, and if I were working somewhere now where that was an ongoing risk I would look for these.

These look like great work boots that offer good protection. My husband use to work for a company that would pay up to a certain amount for their steel toe boots. Glad you found some that you like and can depend on.

My husband was required to wear steel toed boots in his job as stationary engineer. Those steel toes saved his feet numerous times. He wore Carolina boots initially, but the weight of them bothered him because he was required to walk over distances on concrete inh his job.
