Celebrate with Peppermint Peeps
By Laurel1 onPeppermint Peeps are a limited holiday edition, so buy them while you can!Peeps came into being many years ago as little chick-shaped marshmallow confections dusted in yellow sugar, hence the name. They have since expanded the line with flavors, colors and shapes for every holiday on the calendar. Christmas is a great time for them, with flavored "Gingerbread" or cookie shapes, green trees, and this year, the brand new Peppermint Stars.
I confess, I'm a sucker for marshmallow. In non-holiday times, I buy bags of miniature marshmallows, and treat myself with them; marshmallow is, after all, a fat free food. On the other hand, it is almost all sugar (I wasn't sure if that should be a high sugar rating, or a low sugar rating, but I gave it a 5 because ithas LOTS of sugar - diabetics, stop reading and don't try these!), but three stars (one serving) have 110 calories, which isn't too bad.The package holds nine stars, so you have three servings for right around $1.00.
The white stars are sprinkled with shining red bits of peppermint-flavored sugar. Although the package says "natural and artificial flavors" I'm pretty sure there is some real peppermint in them; they have that icy peppermint blast that you only find with the real thing.
I think the shape, and of course the fact that they are marshmallow, may appeal more to children than adults; but then, I never have acted my age!I am giving them five big (peppermint) stars, and hope that SharedReviews pays me soon so that I can stock up on them while they're still available!
