Century Chest Protector For Sparring By Mom2One on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
This is something every very serious Marital Artist needs, a Hogu. For those that do not know what a Hogu is, it is a chest protector that competitors wear during sparring matches.
The one I brought for my son is the Century Elite Reversible Sparring Vest. This seem to be the best one to protect him when he is sparring.
It is a high-density foam covered with soft vinyl. When my son gets kicked or punch he doesn't seem to feel it that much. Sure you feel it but it protects you from getting seriously injured.
This chest protector is reversible with a red scoring on one side and a blue scoring on the other. It makes it easy when you are at tournaments to switch to whatever color the referee tells you to be.
This particular Hogu has a spine shield to reduce injury; not all hogus have that so that in this mother's opinion is a great bonus.
The Hogu is secured with extra wide hooks and loops. When tied correctly this will not move on the student, no matter how many kicks they take.
My son doesn't spar a whole lot, which is probably a good thing for my heart, but I feel better knowing when he does spar that he is wearing one of the best in sparring equipment.
