Cfl Lightbulbs Help Me Find My Way In The Dark. By a-w-omyn on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
We were looking to save money on our energy bill, and we thought we'd give these newer bulbs a go. We bought the 20 watt type, that they say produces as much light as a regular 75 watt bulb.
They are not lying! These bulbs are great! They may even produce more light than claimed!
The last longer than the older regular light bulbs too, and we've noticed that our energy bill isn't quite as high as it used to be, even though rates are only continuing to go up.
They're about the same price, but they save money, what's not to try?
They have an interesting shape, and they fit into all our lamps and various light sockets (like the ceiling lights that light up the hallway in our home).

While I most certainly love the energy savings of CFL bulbs, there's one huge caveat. Once they do burn out, you can NOT throw them in the normal garbage. This is because they do contain a small amount of mercury, which can be quite poisonous and bad for the environment. Hopefully LED lightbulbs will solve this problem in the future.
